In a joint Shin Bet-IDF operation, Hamas co-founder Hassan Yousef was taken into Israeli custody in a pre-dawn raid.
Yousef, considered a Hamas ‘moderate,’ has spent a considerable amount of time behind bars in Israel was arrested peacefully at his Ramallah home for “incitement for violence.”
The most recent charges stem from remarks Sheikh Yousef made warning that if the Palestinian Authority would face internal struggles if it did not engage in an intifada against Israel.
However, given the amount of inflammatory rhetoric, including social media posts encouraging young Palestinians to stab Jews and recent sermons by Muslim clerics insisting “not a single Jew will remain on this land” (see below), some think Yousef’s re-arrest is more of a symbolic show of force.
